Gross Leak Tester GLT-01

The GLT-01 Gross Leak Tester is a highly efficient and reliable solution designed to detect gross leaks in packaging using the internal pressurization method. In addition, it is also known as the bubble test, underwater immersion test, or dunking test. Specifically, this device is primarily utilized for pouches and sterile packaging.Furthermore, compliant with ASTM F2096, the GLT-01 offers a proven procedure to identify leaks in both porous and non-permeable materials through bubble leak testing.

Introduction

GLT-01 Gross Leak Tester

The GLT-01 generates a pressure difference between the inside of the sample being tested and the surrounding water medium. As you immerse the sample, any existing leaks allow high-pressure gas to escape, creating observable bubbles in the water. This method, therefore, ensures accurate detection of gross leaks from 250μm.

The ASTM F2096 standard outlines procedures for testing porous and non-permeable packaging materials. By applying internal pressure, gas is released through leaks, forming bubbles in water and effectively identifying potential leak points. This testing method not only assesses the integrity of packaging but also simulates the pressures and impacts that packaging may encounter during transportation and storage.

Application

During testing, the sample is submerged in water while internal pressure is applied. If a leak exists, gas will escape through the leak point, creating bubbles in the water. This process is suitable for most packaging materials and provides precise evaluation of the packaging’s sealing integrity.

Test Method

The MLT-01 Micro Leak Tester employs the vacuum decay method, which effectively detects leaks by measuring pressure loss in a vacuum-sealed chamber. In fact, the test process consists of several phases:

Test Process:

The packaging sample is sealed and placed in the leak test tank.
Internal pressure is applied, creating a differential pressure.
The sample is submerged in water; any leak will result in gas escaping and forming bubbles.
Observing these bubbles allows for immediate identification of leak points.

This destructive testing method is highly useful for sterile packaging in a test laboratory environment. GLT-01 Gross Leak Tester also applies to very large or long packages.
